golden light of sunrise

I don’t know how you start you posts, but what I do is, I open a new blank post. I choose an image, them I start to think of a title and maybe some text to it. I always start with an photo. I mainly posts photos, lately I have started add some more words to my posts, but I am a strong believer that the photo should convey the message – I don’t know if it true, but it is what I want to believe.

This photo I took years ago in Koh Lanta in Thailand, this is the first time I’ve edited it. I don’t know why I haven’t shared it before.

The beautiful beach, the tall palm trees, and the serene waters all bathed in the golden light of sunrise created a truly lovely scene that morning. The untouched sandy beach and scattered rocks add the feeling of untouched natural charm, while the sky’s gradient from blue to golden yellow is uplighting the spirit. I still remember to calmness and peaceful atmosphere as I had the beach to myself, just me and the tranquility of the lovely morning. I wish I was there now 🙂

Just out of curiosity, do the words add value to the post?

  1. There is such a beautiful mood to this photo, Ritva, and you don’t really need words, but I like to hear the thought process sometimes. My approach tends to be where I have most recently been and the story that goes with that. The photos help tell the story, but they would not usually stand alone, as yours do.

  2. This photo absolutely stunning. One can practically feel the calmness and peacefulness you described.

  3. A beautiful scene, and interesting to read about your thought processes when creating a post so yes, the words definitely added to the photo on this occasion. I also like that you described how you felt when you were there 🙂

  4. Such a tranquil scene! To your question, I like hearing about the background of the photo. In fact, I use the phrase “the stories behind the shots” in my blog’s tagline. So, your words added value to this beautiful photo.

  5. I thought this was Florida. As Frank says, everyone has a method to their own madness. But I did enjoy learning this photo is from Thailand and not Florida!

  6. While some photos can stand on their own, it helps the viewer to know where the photo was taken. When the photographer adds their feelings and thoughts, it increases the understanding of the subject. I belong to a camera club and we have to title our pictures. That title is so important because it gives the judge some orientation for the picture. Even then, some judges don’t understand the photographer’s original intent from just a title.

  7. This photo is like an old postcard from the fifties by coloration. Calm, dreamy and one from a faraway place. In this case, the text will not be needed, unless it also told a story. I once had a beach photo and when I got home, it looked like There was a dead naked man under the tree. Dead? My husband managed to convince me that it most likely was not.

  8. I agree with you that a good photo should not need words to convey a story. To add words or not has often been a struggle for me. I have found that a lot of people do not read an entire post while others enjoy the story behind the photo. For that reason, it is best to follow what you enjoy most. 😉
