How to Survive November 2022 – 26

Electricity” is the 1979 debut single by English electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), featured on their eponymous debut album the following year.

Electricity” was the first song that Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys wrote together at the age of 16. It addresses society’s wasteful usage of energy resources.

SO, relevant sond still today, even more so

Our one source of energy
The ultimate discovery
Electric blue for me
Never more to be free

Electricity
Nuclear and H E B
Come fuels from the sea
Wasted electricity

Our one source energy
Electricity
All we need is to learn to save
And if a man would throw away

It doesn’t change the city cost
The alternative is only one
The final source of energy
Solar electricity

Oh, I wish that I could find a good book to live in
Oh, I wish that I could find a good book
Well, if I could find a real good book
I’d never have to come out and look at
What they’ve done to my song

Today I am taking an easy way out AGAIN , I have spent so much time listening to music I like and find a song to go with it, and it is hard. I like wine, and I Like UB40 Red Red Wine!

I actually thought I’d have tons of pictures of wine, but surprisingly I didn’t. Have to drink some more to get few photos 🙂

The song in my opinion says what we need today – Red Wine

The Box Tops came up as I was looking for a song about letters, I remember listening to this song and completely forget about it and then just wake up with it in your head? Yeah it’s the greatest. It’s like seeing a friend you haven’t seen in forever. It goes so well with todays photo of old letters I received when living abroad. I spent long times living away from my love.

First I thought I would make this post vibrate with the music of Bruce Springsteen – Letter To You , which could have been just appropriate. But as I have photos of letters addressed to me…

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
Ain’t got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I’m a-goin’ home
My baby, just a wrote me a letter

I don’t care how much money I gotta spend
Got to get back to my baby again
Lonely days are gone, I’m a-goin’ home
My baby, just-a wrote me a letter

The Box Tops is an American rock band formed in Memphis in 1967, The Box Tops’ music combined elements of soul music and light pop. As the Box Tops, they entered the studio to record Wayne Carson Thompson’s song “The Letter”. Though under two minutes in length, the record was an international hit by September 1967, reaching the Hot 100’s number-one position for four weeks, selling over four million copies, earning a gold disc, and receiving two Grammy Award nominations.

Don’t tell me
My love’s not the one that I want
That he’s not the one that I need
I’d rather find out for myself

You’re the one
Who shakes at the touch of my hand

I love this song, it is the magic of this tune, the way Phoebe Snow puts it together sends feelings of sadness reflection and love. I had really hard time finding photos to go with it. But it has certain nostalgia that I thought could go with memories. Hope you listen to this beautiful song 🙂

Tell me what you’re feeling and what it all means.
You could be defensive or open up and share your dreams.
You can keep right on denying or face me and start crying.
‘Cause this time, when I reach out, it may be my last try. Ooohh baby, I want something real one time before I die.

Phoebe Snow was an American roots music singer-songwriter and guitarist, She was described by The New York Times as a “contralto grounded in a bluesy growl and capable of sweeping over four octaves.

We’ll cry until it’s funny, baby. And laugh our selves to tears, yeah.
If you’re frightened honey, I’ll hold you through your fears.
You see, I’ve had some bad relationships already and
I’ve fooled around goin’ steady

When I was a teenager, I loved ABBA, and my favorite was Frida. And even at young age due to having lived already abroad I had this restless streak in me. Always wanting to go, loving the journey, seeing and learning new things. This song resonated to me.

Eagle

These photos are also from my archives, from 2013 when I visited Vancouver are in British Columbia, My photography skills have improved since then also my equipment. I was very happy at the time to have captured these eagles.

They came flying from far away
Now I’m under their spell
I love hearing the stories that they tell

They’ve seen places beyond my land
And they’ve found new horizons
They speak strangely but I understand

High, high, I’m a bird in the sky (I’m an eagle)
I’m an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly (what a feeling)
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please

Flying high, high, I’m a bird in the sky
I’m an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please

And I dream I’m an eagle
And I dream I can spread my wings

How to Survive November 2022 -3

California dreamin’
On such a winter’s day ( a gray November day)

All the leaves are brown
And the sky is gray
I’ve been for a walk
On a winter’s day
I’d be safe and warm
If I was in L.A. (San Diego)

California dreamin’ (
On such a winter’s day (November day)

This song, the sentiments are what I have during the winter months, to be anywhere warn and sunny. I lived in San Diego years back in 1990’s and I remember warmly the even temperatures during all year round. These photo I scanned from the paper photos. I don’t know if I would want to live in the states anymore, but back then I enjoyed it. The weather there in California sounds like a dream, at least during winter months , certainly worth dreaming about.

The obvious choice could have been The Mamas & the Papas – California Dreamin’ or The Beach Boys – California Dreamin’ Instead, I chose this version. Let’s dream, even if i know I won’t go.

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #222 – Mountains Are Calling

I live in a country with no real mountains, I have seen few on my travels. Here are some photos I have taken. I have linked this post to Amy’s post #Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #222 – Mountains Are Calling

These first are from Vancouver – the beautiful Canadian Gulf Islands and View of Mt. Rainier from ferry coming from Victoria Island.

The second set is from Whistles mountain Whistler is located in the southern Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains,

Huge mountains, rugged foothills, deep canyons, vast caverns, and the world’s largest trees exemplify the diversity of landscapes, life, and beauty here. Sierra Nevada mountain range – Sequoia!

🦎 Lizard

I came across these images of a lizard I saw in Key West some years back. I find it very impressive and beautiful in it’s own way.

Wonderful structure of the lizard

this month the #WordPrompt is Bridge, here is my contribution to the word.

Orange car

Out of nowhere, I suddenly found this photo on my phone of an orange car in front of an orange canopy, I have taken this in Miami few years back, I don’t remember posting it. A it is a square I must have posted in Instagram. I wish I had taken some time to edit. it.

Memory lane- Oregon #4

At first I will take you to the Oregon coast line, unfortunately I do not recall what beach or location other than coastline, at the time I did not write them down, for me it is enough that they are beautiful locations and loved the views. These are from 2013, might not look the same anymore

This is the second last post from this location, but it was such a great spot so obviously I have tons of photos. You can see the Heceta Head Lighthousee in these

Memory lane- Oregon

I am sitting at my desk watching the snow fall and dreaming of sunshine and warm weather.

So, I was going through my archives, again, for photos that I haven’t really edited. So I edited them. I have lot’s of photos that I have not taken that need a closer look. Some need to have the horizon straightened, maybe add little contrast and light. So I have done that. Touch here and there.

comments

is anyone else having issues about posting comments today, I am frustrated!!!!! I have written several comments to various posts and then I they won’t go through. It does not happen to all blogs or all comments.

After several attempts I give up….I feel like these two below 🙂

February 8

Today I finally got some stuff done. I took my spectacles to the optometrist to get them fixed, one of the lenses had a not so small scratch on it. Went to the pharmacy to get eye drops my eyes are so dry, as is my skin, winter…

I also took an artwork of mine to be printed, I sold one, I am rather happy about that. Hopefully it will come out nicely as it is largest I’ve had done so far.

Once again a picture of snow

I’ll have my coffee inside

Naples Pier – Before & After

Naples pier in Florida

I like this shot of the Naples Pier I took few years ago. The sun was low and it came shining under the pier. I transformed it to blank and white image. I think i works both ways.

Martins Beach

the distinctive shark’s tooth rock at Martin’s Beach

Martins Beach on the San Mateo County coast, seven miles south of Half Moon Bay. The only way onto this scenic beach is a single road through private property.  The owner restricted access to that road by displaying “No Trespassing” signs, charging parking fees, and locking its access gate.

We went there anyways as we we advised that it is a great spot for photography, as it was. We spent few hours there watching the changing skies over the ocean. The sky had different shades depending what direction you looked at and also as time passed to evening , that also had some effect. There we about five other people there also taking photos and one surfer also came.

Beach Life

I know you must be tired of seeing my photos of beaches and cliffs, I don’t care. We stopped here also for a moment (Pomponio State Beach) . I have admit that these too are photos that do justice to the atmosphere on the beach that day, I rather like these. I also did a set of these photos that I edited rather strongly, I do like them also and I will post them in a separate post.

Pomponio State Beach

This beach is located 12 miles south of Half Moon Bay along the San Mateo coastline, this area provides access to miles of gently sloping, sandy beaches at the base of high sandstone bluffs.

Fishing spot

somewhere on the coast of Big Sur we saw these men fishing among one of the many beautiful spots on this drive. I have to admit the light during this moment is great These are one of my favorites photos on a way, due to the lightning.

McWay Falls

McWay Falls(   80-foot-tall (24 m) waterfall)  is “that” waterfall in Big Sur that everyone has seen and many have photographed. That now includes me. The Cliff areas beyond the fenced boundaries, including the beach, saddle rock and the falls area are completely off limits. So the end of the trail was where you could take the photos. Our time of visit was not the best as the light was rather harsh, but we did not have the opportunity and time to pick the time of the visit.

The Inn at Spanish Bay

The Inn at Spanish Bay at sunset. I have to say it was a truly memorable experience to relax by the warm fire pits with some hors d’oeuvres and cocktails to wait for the sunset and hear and enjoy the sounds of the bagpiper as he puts the golf course to sleep in Scottish tradition. Once in a life time for me that’s for sure!
