As I am so waiting for summer or even spring to really arrive I am posting this traditional window(s) for Monday Window
In the vast Finnish countryside, you’ll find the charming traditional Finnish falu red log houses, each one telling a story of generations past. These beloved structures, affectionately known as “Grandma’s cottages,” evoke a sense of nostalgia and warmth, reflecting a simpler time when life was closely intertwined with nature. w

The distinctive falu red hue, derived from a traditional Scandinavian pigment, not only adds a striking visual appeal to these log houses but also serves to protect the wood from the elements, ensuring their longevity for years to come. As sunlight filters through the small, paned windows, it illuminates the cozy interiors.

Embracing the essence of hygge, the Finnish art of coziness and contentment, “Grandma’s cottages” beckon visitors to step inside and experience a slice of authentic Finnish hospitality. The red log houses stand as a testament to the enduring spirit of tradition and the enduring beauty of simple, rustic architecture.

The red log cottages and red houses are very common in Sweden too. I love them. Very nice photos.
Thomas, yes they are common in Sweden and Norway also… Thanks!
That’s a really charming scenery, Ritva 🥰. Sorry to hear that Spring is late there. And in my home country, India, even in the Northern parts, the sun is already scorching..which is another extreme sadly.
Yes, we just past weekend said farewell to the last snow in our backyard. That is progress… +8C today. India, we fly there in the winter to get away from the cold.
Good to know that it’s getting better. And as for traveling, Southern parts of India are perfect to escape from the cold winters of anywhere 😀..
Beautiful and calm
Thanks, that is what countryside is :-)
Those red cottages are beautiful and captured so well through your lens.
Thanks Anne!
😊
Very attractive houses, thanks for sharing them
🙂 Have to post something from Finland every now and then. Thanks Sarah
There’s something appealing about red houses. Great photos!
Yes, and they are so traditional here.
Charming sights and well photographed as always. I love that last one, the calm street winding around the bend. Really pleasant. Hope that it will be that green soon. We’ll be at 29 C here today. Our spring is fading fast.
Thanks, I hope so too. Here +29C is a heatwave. Some time in May it will be green…
Such attractive houses.
Thanks Janet, they are cosy and modest.
The red painted cottages are so charming and unique. Love that last photo which draws me in to the walk along the street. I love the simple interiors and beautiful craftsmanship of yesteryear.
I might suggest the bright red stands out on a snow-covered landscape too?
I’m following a Londoner who restores a lovely red-painted cottage in the woods in Sweden at the moment. I’m drawn to her simple renovation work and glimpses of the wildflowers and trees in the woods. Her drone captures the vast swath of woodland that cover much of the north European countryside. I can well imagine simple indoorFinnish interiors as being similar.
I believe you are right, the style is common in the Nordic.
🙂
