Ah…..aminata muscaria. My favourite mushroom. And mildly psychotropic to boot.

No not poisonous.
It has two active compounds:
Ibotenic acid causes nausea and vomiting (but not death)
And Muscimol which is a hallucinogen.
You can remove the ibotenic acid by boiling etc.
Believe it or not Icelandic shamans used to drink the urine of reindeer that had eaten these mushrooms because the urine still contained muscimol but no ibotenic acid.
This mushroom has a fascinating history well worth digging into.
yes, I know The white one is more poisonous, but I would not recommend eating this…even after being boiled in a hot water.
