Winter always evokes a mix of emotions within us. The cold can be daunting, yet it brings about a serene beauty that is captured through the lens of a camera. As the winter wraps the world in its chilly embrace, it presents us with scenes of enchanting tranquility. The stark contrast of the vibrant blue skies against the snowy landscapes is a sight to behold, a true testament to the captivating allure of the winter season. It’s a time when nature seemingly slows down, allowing us to appreciate the delicate intricacies of our surroundings.
With every image, I aim to convey the unspoken elegance of winter, letting the pictures narrate their own stories without the need for accompanying explanations.

Beautiful
Beautiful scenes Ritva!
It is lovely route to walk
I’m sure it is. All we’re getting is fog and rain!
Nice photo opportunity with fog 😊
😊 Done!
We heard on the radio about the extreme snowstorms that hit the south of Sweden, leaving more than 100 cars stuck on a highway… Hopefully the people will be back home by the emergency services (the army would also have been deployed) in the meantime. touched. Have you noticed anything about that where you live?
Rudi, it has been very cold, still is. We had the lowest temperature recorded in northern Finland in 18 years-42,4
C . All an all the temperature has been between-20- -35C it has caused really high electricity prices and trains have delayed hours. But fortunately we have not had that kind of traffic jam.
Thanks Ritva for your reaction. Lucky you had no traffic problems. Maybe a stupid question but are electricity prices related to temperatures ? Has is to do with the hydro electric powerplants ?
Lot’s of people buy their from the electricity exchange and the weather often causes a spike to the prices. Luckily I have a fixed price as the saved me form this nightmare. The Nordic electricity exchange Nordpool says that the tax-free price of electricity will jump to a new record tomorrow.
The most expensive electricity is between 19-20, when the tax-free price is a whopping 1,896 euros per megawatt hour, or 1.90 euros/kwh. With value added tax, the price increases by two euros per kilowatt hour, to 2.35 euros. That’s a new record.
At the same time, the price has been increased by the fact that the supply of electricity has decreased due to numerous failure situations in several Finnish power plants. Due to fault situations, power plants are out of production either completely or partially,
Thanks for the additional info Ritva. I hope the failures will be solved soon. Last winter our electricity and gass prices boomed because of the situation in Ukraine. Electricity is produced by gass plant (but also nuclear plants and wind mills). Now Europe has found other sources for gass so that the present prices are lower than last winter (but still higher als the years before).
I hope that it will get a bit warmer soon were you live, however the real winter still has to come….
Gorgeous scenery
Thanks Nora
