Under Dark Clouds: Aronia, Cinquefoil and Hostas Still Shine

I am more bound to stay inside than go out in the rain, if I don’t have to. I am not a Brit who is so used to it. There was a pause from it and a moment of sunshine from behind the clouds. I took myself out to take photos of the few flowers left blooming this time of the year, mid-September. The black aronia berries were already dark and glossy, with raindrops clinging to them like tiny glass beads. The scrubby cinquefoil was still bravely holding on to a few small yellow blossoms, a bit battered but somehow charming in their stubbornness. Even the hostas, mostly past their best by now, looked refreshed, their broad leaves collecting little pools of water and reflecting the shy light. Raindrops on the ones I took after the rain are a nice added effect.

Shrubby cinquefoil (botanical name Dasiphora fruticosa) formerly known as Potentilla fruticosa).

I googled these, a variety with creamy white or pale yellow flowers with a yellow center (such as the varieties ‘Primrose Beauty’ or ‘Limelight’)

  3. Such a beautiful autumn walk! 🍂 The raindrops look like tiny glass beads on those glossy aronia berries 🍇💧, and the close-ups are just wonderful!

  6. Beautiful, Ritva. Three days ago we had two gigantic thunderstorms with horrendous amounts of rain. As our soil here is quite hard, there were lakes everywhere and even today, on the golf course behind our house, there is still sitting water. It was a bit much at one time, even though we can always use water.

  8. Aroniapensaan lehdet ovat syksyisin niin upean värisiä. Keräätkö aroniaa? Minä poimin niitä aina jonkin verran pakkaseen laitetettavaksi, sopivat hyvin esim. puolukkahillon joukkoon.

  9. 👌🏻 Great images! The raindrops really add to the overall look of the flowers. I love the framing, a close-up image works really well.
    I have a saying in my house – ‘I hate getting wet’ and I live in the UK. You have no chance of me taking a camera out if there’s even the threat of a ‘spit’ in the air 🤣🤣!
    I’m so with you on the idea of staying in😁.
