Lens-artists challenge – Favorite Images of 2025

Our end-of-the-year challenge is this week. There is no specific Lens-Artist host for this challenge, as the team is acting as joint hosts for the week you can link any team member’s post in your response. You can also link to your post in any team member’s comment section.

The “rule” is that your chosen photographs must have been taken in 2025, and must not have been included in response to any of our 2025 challenges.

We embarked on a delightful journey to Australia early last year, traversing thousands of kilometers primarily along its scenic backroads. The diverse landscapes we encountered stood in stark contrast to those familiar to us in Finland, showcasing nature’s breathtaking variety. As we drove, a serene silence enveloped us, occasionally broken by our reflections on the stunning scenery that unfolded before our eyes. Each vista offered a new canvas, rich with color and texture, inviting us to pause and appreciate the beauty of the moment. It was during this trip that I captured the majority of my photography for the year. The memories and experiences of our Australian adventure remain etched in my mind, a reminder of the wonder found in exploration.

My pursuit for photos, was nonexistent, didn’t yield the abundance of stunning shots this year other than the ones I got during our trip. I did get some, but this time for this post, I have decided to focus my shots on that visit.

A panoramic view of lush green valleys and dramatic cliffs under a moody sky, capturing the beauty of the natural landscape at Blue Mountains.

The stunning Blue Mountains, with their breathtaking peaks and lush valleys, left me utterly captivated. The rich tapestry of the forest below, filled with towering eucalyptus trees and vibrant wildlife, created a picturesque landscape that was impossible to forget. The combination of crisp mountain air and the distant sound of cascading waterfalls added to the location’s charm, making it one of the most unforgettable destinations we had the pleasure of exploring. The unique blue haze that envelops the mountains, formed by the oils released from the trees, only intensified their mystique and beauty, drawing visitors into a serene world of natural wonder.

View to Snapper Island in front of Caseys beach with lush trees and rocky outcrops under a cloudy sky.

We enjoyed a two-week stay at my cousin’s place in Caseys Beach, and I absolutely adored gazing at the sea; at night, I listened to the waves as we fell asleep. I must admit, she resides in my dream location, and while I realize I will never have that, it’s certainly a beautiful spot to visit.

A serene, foggy road surrounded by lush greenery on our way to Blue Mountains inviting exploration and adventure.

Those who know me are aware of my love for misty imagery; fog and mist continually inspire my photography. On the morning we drove up the mountain, the fog was so dense that visibility was minimal, yet a light shimmered in the distance, gradually revealing itself as the mist began to lift. I have taken a bit of artistic liberty with the edit – adding a touch more sunlight into the image. But I like the end result.

Three seagulls standing on a reflective shoreline with calm water at Surf Beach in NSW.

The beaches in Australia are breathtaking, characterized by their pristine white sands and crystal-clear waters, making them perfect for beachgoers eager to soak up the sun and surf. I absolutely love watching the waves gently roll in. During my visit to Surf Beach, I encountered a flock of seagulls; compelled by sight of them, I approached for a closer look. This led to one of my favorite photographs, showcasing the stunning reflections they cast on the glistening wet surface.

There are more than 100 ocean-fed rock pools along the NSW coast and the Blue Pool in Bermagui is regularly ranked among the prettiest. This gem along the Sapphire Coast is all opaline hues, think azure fading to turquoise to blush and then canary yellow. Clamber down the cliff and you’re greeted by the 50 metre-long seawater swimming hole and stunning sea views.

A stunning sunset behind a large tree, casting dynamic shadows on the green lawn in Talbingo NSW

Talbingo is a charming small town nestled in a breathtaking mountain setting, which I’ve had the pleasure of visiting twice due to my cousin residing there. Known for its stunning landscapes, it’s a picturesque spot. During my visit, I was captivated by a beautiful sunset behind this tree. During our visit to Australia, we saw so many gorgeous sunsets, and this was one of them.

A striking view of dry trees against a blue sky, highlighting the contrast of nature’s resilience somewhere on the road in Australia.

The aftermath of wildfires reveals strikingly expressive tree trunks, each bearing a unique story etched into their bark. These charred remnants stand as testament to nature’s resilience, captivating our attention and inviting us to capture their haunting beauty through photography. The textures and patterns formed by the flames create artful contrasts, making each trunk a powerful symbol of both destruction and renewal, begging to be immortalized in stunning images.

Rolling golden hills and grazing sheep in the Australian countryside.

The rolling hills of South Australia were breathtaking, adorned with a palette of lovely, muted earth tones that painted the landscape with a serene beauty. Amidst this picturesque scenery, flocks of sheep grazed peacefully, their woolly coats blending seamlessly with the gentle slopes, while clusters of cows wandered nearby, adding to the idyllic charm of this rural paradise.

Lens-Artists Challenge #330 – Favorite Images of 2024

As has become our custom, we are asking our followers to select their favorite images of 2024 – whether they’ve been included in previous posts or not. This week, no single host will present the challenge. The entire team will share the challenge topic today.

These are some of the images and edits that I shared this year. Each piece reflects a moment in time that I’ve captured, representing my personal vision as a photographer. Favorite, aah, I like them they say something about me as a photographer and what I like my images to have in them. They convey emotions, stories, inviting them to see the world through my lens. Whether it’s the play of light, the composition, or the subject matter, every detail, aiming to evoke a sense of connection and appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.

Mood and contrast – I like that about the image and the color scheme, as they create a captivating atmosphere that draws the viewer in. The interplay of light and shadow enhances the overall depth, making the scene feel more dynamic. Additionally, the choice of colors complements the subject. This thoughtful combination not only highlights the details but also contributes to the emotional tone.

I love the woods, where the tall trees stand majestically, their leaves rustling in the gentle breeze, and the small country roads that wind gracefully through the landscape. This scene captivates me deeply, especially during autumn when the vibrant colors paint the world in shades of red, orange, and gold. The beauty of the foliage creates a breathtaking backdrop, and I find solace in the tranquility of nature. The composition, with its leading line that disappears down to the unknown, invites curiosity. e.

Once again, the mood of this shot captivates me. Some of my favorite people are in it, sharing a moment that feels both timeless and fleeting. The sea, with its rhythmic waves, and the clouds overhead create a stunning backdrop—seaside scenery has always appealed to me. A cloudy day often gives it the extra element of drama and intrigue that makes it particularly interesting, enhancing the colors of the landscape. As I gaze at this scene, I can’t help but reflect on the laughter and stories shared.

Surprise – once again at the seaside. I watched the pelican trying to catch fish, it’s graceful movements slicing through the air, showcasing their skill and precision. The sunlight sparkled on the water’s surface, reflecting vibrant hues of blue and green, I like the movement, the colors in this shot, capturing not just the beauty of the moment but also the exhilarating energy of nature all around me as the salty breeze carried the sounds of the sea and the calls of seabirds.

The best time to experience early summer in Finland is undoubtedly in the evening light, as captured in this photograph taken around 10 PM. During this magical hour, the sun lingers on the horizon, casting a warm glow over the landscape. You can see the dandelion field, lush and vibrant, just before their seeds dance away on the gentle breeze, creating a stunning sight that epitomizes the fleeting beauty of summer. The beautiful green tones, so typical of this time of year, shimmer under the soft light, enhancing the enchanting atmosphere, fully embracing the serene splendor of Finland’s natural beauty.

I named this lipstick sunset and boats in the marina – lovely tones that evoke a calm mood, reminiscent of warm evenings spent by the water, where the sky is painted in shades of red and pink as the sun dips below the horizon, and the gentle sway of the boats creates a serene atmosphere, inviting you to relax and enjoy the beauty unfolding before your eyes.

This image is abstract, but it also works as ICM. The movement in it captures the start of newlyweds moving toward their future. This scene means a lot to me, symbolizing the excitement and unpredictability of starting a new life together. The colors blend, making it more than just a picture; it’s a shared experience of moving forward.

One more image, a new one. My husband and youngest grandson at his first Christmas. Love.

Lens-Artist Photo Challenge #281—Favorite Images of 2023

I would like to extend my gratitude to the Lens-Artists team for extending an invitation to join them. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised and deeply happy to become a part of this esteemed group of talented photographers, who not only capture mesmerizing images but also possess a remarkable gift for storytelling through words. As for me, I tend to adopt a more direct approach; I believe that a photograph should inherently narrate a compelling story. Perhaps it’s just my inclination towards visual expression, or maybe it’s due to my perceived lack of proficiency in conveying narratives with words. Nonetheless, I sincerely appreciate the invitation and am genuinely honored to be included as a member of this distinguished group.

One year has come and gone and I looked at all the photos I’ve posted, SO, SO many. I will make a point of not posting more than 10 photos a post from now on in these challenges. I could even do less, who knows. By doing so, it becomes possible to maintain a better overview of the content that I have shared, allowing for more deliberate, meaningful engagement.

As I reflected on my photography journey, I found that the simplicity in composition has a unique way of drawing the eye and establishing a sense of balance within the frame. Black and white photography, in particular, has a timeless elegance that captivates the essence of the subjects captured.

The prevailing themes of sea, lakes, forest, and clouds underscore my deep appreciation for the marvels of nature, each holding a special place in my heart.

These ten photos I chose I like, they may not the best ones, but they summarize what what I like to photograph and what style of photography I do.

Furthermore, the vibrant beauty of flowers has consistently been a compelling subject, offering an ever-present source of joy and inspiration. Additionally, capturing the diverse range of people and their myriad of moods has allowed me to encapsulate the essence of life that surrounds me. Odd and unexpected things draw my attention and keeps me alert – look closely that is my motto.

By embracing these elements, I have discovered a profound connection to the world around me through my photography. The world as I see it (through my camera)
