Monochrome Sydney: Urban Landscapes from the Sea

For Leanne’s Monochrome Madness, I am returning to Sydney, Australia, to capture the essence of this vibrant city from a unique perspective. These photographs were taken from the sea, which gives them a slightly different approach than what I would typically do, such as shooting from within the bustling streets of the city. Leanne noted, “Urban is defined as being near or in a city or town. I guess it probably means lots of buildings or something like that.” While this definition holds true, my images reveal a different narrative, with few buildings standing tall against the expansive backdrop of the Sydney Central Business District (CBD) skyline and the mesmerizing harbor view. The interplay of light and shadow creates a striking contrast, and the monochromatic tones highlight the architectural forms against the gentle ripples of the sea. By stepping back and viewing Sydney from this vantage point, I aim to evoke a sense of tranquility amidst the urban landscape, inviting viewers to appreciate both the natural beauty and the urban environment harmoniously intertwined.

The Sydney Tower Eye or Centrepoint It rises to a height of 309 meters and is the tallest structure in Sydney.

Splendid images, Ritva! I always think urban scenes are impressive (perhaps more-so) when shot from the sea or across water. No messy foreground to deal with. I’ve a host of shots of Toronto taken from Lake Ontario and, for whatever reason, I prefer those to the on-the-street shots. Silly? Great post!
