I am excited to share photos from a restaurant in Tallinn, where the atmosphere was absolutely vibrant that day! The sun shone brilliantly, encouraging all the customers to enjoy their meals outside. I was particularly enchanted by how the Rotermann kvartal beautifully blends old and new buildings, celebrating the city’s rich history alongside its modern innovations. The architecture tells a delightful story, reflecting the perfect harmony of tradition and progress that defines Tallinn. As I framed the shot, I was immediately captivated by the stylish, modern restaurant interior that unfolded before me, where exposed stone and brick walls created a perfect blend of rustic charm and sophistication. The large arched windows at the far end poured natural light into the space, illuminating the high ceiling adorned with visible beams and industrial-style lighting fixtures that hung gracefully above. My lens caught the wooden tables and chairs neatly arranged along the polished wooden floor, complemented by glassware and cutlery that sparkled in the sunlight. The service counter, lined with bottles and glassware, contributed to the warm, inviting atmosphere. I couldn’t help but notice the Staff in blackl attire, adding life to the setting and embodying the vibrant, welcoming experience that harmoniously merged historic architecture with contemporary design elements.

The photo was taken in the Rotermann Quarter of Tallinn, and it depicts an old brick chimney integrated into modern architecture.

I captured these images to highlight the striking juxtaposition of modern and historic architecture in a single frame. The glass facade, with its slanted design, serves as a reflective canvas, beautifully mirroring the old stone wall and staircase, showcasing how these contrasting styles can coexist. The presence of two bicycles, one black and the other red with a charming basket, adds a touch of life and accessibility to the scene, emphasizing the building’s role in everyday urban life. I have been kind of uninspired for the longest time; I haven’t really been taking hardly any photos, and that is, of course, compared to how I used to capture every moment with enthusiasm and creativity. I was sitting at home, looking out at the plant that grows and climbs outside my living room windows, watching the evening turn blue, painted softly by the setting sun—a small thing, but it does give me joy.

Each day, I notice how this plant seems to stretch and twist toward the light and anything to cling to, a reminder of life’s quiet persistence. I also watch the season change here; soon, the leaves will be turning yellow, brightening the landscape with their warm hues, and with that change, the atmosphere will be totally different. The crispness in the air will usher in familiar scents of nature, inviting me to step outside and embrace the beauty around me once again. I’ve realized that sometimes, it’s these simple yet profound moments that can spark inspiration anew, urging me to pick up my camera and see the world through a different lens.

This week, Patti from is asking this question: what makes a photo dramatic? Maybe it is processed in black and white, or it has vivid colors. Maybe a person, place, or object is captured from a unique perspective or it is a macro shot.

I took this from the plane, the mountains make a dramatic scene behind the clouds.

The word “dramatic” holds immense significance for me – it encapsulates the sense of grandeur and intensity that is ever-present. It’s remarkable how the play of light in photographs can be so distinctive and impactful. In contrast, everyday life may not exude the same overt drama; seemingly mundane events can often hold hidden depths of emotion and sentiment beneath a tranquil facade. Being of Finn, I acknowledge that we may not be the most openly expressive people, yet our emotions are profoundly felt and deeply rooted.

For me, the sea stands as one of the most profoundly dramatic elements, alongside the ever-changing canvas of clouds. Nature, or rather the weather, serves as the catalyst for many of these breathtaking phenomena.

Furthermore, the architectural details has the potential to evoke a dramatic impact through the interplay of light, shadow, and contours.

I sometimes capture documentary shots, sometimes I see people who are down on their luck. Even though I don’t know their stories, seeing these homeless men sitting on the streets of Las Vegas was truly a poignant and sad sight. They are not sharp images on purpose…
