Clam chowder is a classic seafood soup that is loved by many, me included. It typically consists of clams, potatoes, onions, celery, and bacon, cooked in a creamy broth. Clam chowder is a comfort food that warms the soul.

Cheesecake, chocolate mousse, and berries make a heavenly combination. The rich and creamy texture of the cheesecake complements the smooth and velvety texture of the chocolate mousse. The burst of sweetness from the berries adds a refreshing and tangy element to the dessert. It’s a treat that is sure to impress your taste buds and satisfy your cravings.

Today the sunrise was at 8:20 and sunset 15:55. Typical November day.

I went to get my influence shot. Hopefully this will prevent me from getting it and if I do it will be milder. I timed it perfectly I was there one minute before my time and it took about two minutes and I was out. Then I had to it 15 minutes in the waiting room in case of side effects. Luckily I met a friend there 🙂 by chance and we had a nice chat.

I don’t know about you, but I am a big fan of spices and onions and garlic. If possible I use them in all the foods I cook. Plus I think they are a great topic for photography.

How to survive November 2023 – 10

Today the sunrise was at 8:09 and sunset 16:04. Rainy snotty day. A man of peace is is set to rest.

The state funeral of President Martti Ahtisaari, who died on OCTOBER 16, will be held today, Friday, November 10, in Helsinki. More than 800 guests have been invited to the state funeral.

The late president Martti Ahtisaari was especially known as a peace builder. Ahtisaari, which helped on no less than three continents, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008.

The theme of peace can be seen in his perhaps most famous quote: Peace is a matter of will, Ahtisaari said in his Nobel speech in Oslo. The speech will go down in history anyway. Ahtisaari firmly believed that if people work together, solutions can be found.

In 1989–1990, Martti Ahtisaari helped Namibia become independent. In 2005, Ahtisaari led the peace negotiations in Indonesia that led to the autonomy of Aceh. Ahtisaari played a significant role in the resolution of the Kosovo conflict in 1999 and in 2005–2007. In 2008, Ahtisaari was involved in promoting the stability of Iraq. He also looked for solutions to conflicts in Northern Ireland, Central Asia and the Horn of Africa.

RECIPE under the picture

3 dl oatmeal
1 dl sugar
3 tbsp Pinch of cocoa powder (dark)
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
100 g room temperature butter or margarine
approx. 2 tbsp strong, cold coffee
To the surface approx. 1 dl / A handful of coconut flakes

Bake time 30 – 60 min

How to survive November 2023 – 5

What can I say, today the sunrise was at 7:56 and sunset 16:16. it is gray and rainy. It is Sunday and it is not raining and the temperature is as nice as +9C /48F mainly cloudy.

This morning, I gave instructions as my husband trimmed our oak tree in our backyard – we have to keep it under control or it will shade too much of the space. Now it gives in the summer time us enough shade to cool down on a warm day.

Yesterday we did shopping – for a vacuum cleaner – or a hoover as some would say. Our old one was taken by our son when he moved out. Not something that we had planned, but there it went and found a new home. It is a good thing he wants to keep his home clean. We found one 🙂

Well as I am now on a search for food photos, this is the only reason :-), we went have some Nepalese food. I had Chicken Shiraz and Naan bread. It was tasty and filling and the shiraz wine went well with it.

I love Italian food, I know bruschetta  is an antipasto  but it works well a light (?) lunch and it is always a pleasure to eat food someone else prepared.

Bruschetta is from Italy consisting of grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with olive oil and salt. Variations may include toppings of tomato, vegetables, beans, cured meat, or cheese.

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #271: Contrasts

Amy’s challenge this week is on contrasts. She wrote: There are many ways to express contrasts in photography, e.g. tone, colors, subjects, lights/shadows, and more.

Big – small and red and white + old and new

In photography, mastering the interplay between shadow and light is vital. The art of capturing light and manipulating shadows allows photographers to create captivating images that elicit a range of emotions. From dramatic silhouettes to intimate chiaroscuro portraits, the use of shadow and light can transform a simple photograph into a masterpiece.

Size, shape, colors

Contrast between the old and the new can evoke a variety of thoughts and emotions. The juxtaposition of these two elements can highlight the passage of time. It can elicit a sense of nostalgia for the past while simultaneously showcasing the advancements of the present.

When capturing the contrast between the old and the new in photography, you have the opportunity to tell a compelling visual story. The weathered textures and architectural details of old buildings can stand in stark contrast to the sleek lines and modern design of new structures.

Exploring the contrast between the old and the new in your photography can lead to stunning and thought-provoking images, this theme offers a wealth of artistic possibilities.

Shadow play, colors and textures

Young and older. Smiling and somber

Garlic

Practicing my food photography.

Garlic was my choice this time. I add garlic to so many foods, and lots of it. Even now my hands smell of garlic as I just put a pan on stove to simmer, making pasta sauce.

Onions I’ve done several times so, this is a slight change.

“Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.”

Those are famous words from the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, often called the father of Western medicine.

He prescribed garlic to treat a variety of medical conditions — and modern science has confirmed many of these beneficial health effects.

Fast facts on garlic

In many countries, garlic has been used medicinally for centuries.

Garlic may have a range of health benefits, both raw and cooked.

It may have significant antibiotic properties.

Lens Artists Challenge #226 – Textures

This is my third week in participating in this challenge. I have to say, there has been beautiful posts about the chosen topics tthese past weeks, I have found new blogs to follow and it has given me inspiration and intoduced me to new places and ways to look at photos. But to the topic at hand…

Jude from Cornwall in Colours hosts this weeks LAPC #226 – Textures.

She wrote; Texture is one method of bringing life to your photos. While the structure of an object is its form, the material from which it is made constitutes its texture You are aiming at translating texture visually, bringing life and energy to a photo through shape, tone and colour.

I have done macro photography for some time and capturing texture is one of the aspects of it. Hope you enjoy my findings in the world of textures, I am also going to post my findings from nature and the nature’s produces, fruits and vegetables plus some spices,

Texture adds variety and visual stimulus to the surface of a photograph. There is a better chance of getting an exciting photograph from a laboured study with texture than from a smooth clarity without it.

52 Frames: Week 40:  Rule Of Odds!

Rule Of Odds. Simply put, there’s a school of thought that multiple subjects in a shot are more pleasing if there are an odd number of them, as opposed to even. Think 3, 5, 7, etc.. The number “one” is technically odd, but I don’t think that’s what this “rule” is referring to.

Often an odd number of subjects creates symmetry in your shot – use an odd number of things for the viewer to focus on without making it too cluttered. If you have people subjects, go for 3 or 5; maybe food photography is your thing and you want us to check out some tacos you’ve just made. Or if you’re out and about – maybe you spot 3 birds sitting on a wire. Oh look, it’s five canoes moored together at the lake – all it takes is for you be to a touch more aware of what you see and try and train your mind to compose in odds.

Buy your tickets here

Remember not to over-crowd the image with too many elements. The average human brain has a better chance of feeling attracted to arrangements of 3 or 5 elements, but as you increase that number, this rule will be less relevant.

Still life

TIPS:

  • Movement: Add dynamism and a feeling of movement by composing shots with good space on the correct side, usually more space in the direction of the movement.
  • CroppingConsider using cropping in your editing software to improve the composition. When done correctly, it can improve things immensely.
  • Positioning: Try to align vertical elements such as buildings, people walking on the street or a solitary tree along a gridline to generate more visual interest.
  • Less Is More: 3 to 5 objects of interest in a scene usually work best. Avoid making your image cluttered.
  • DoF: Use an appropriate Depth Of Field to ensure good sharpness across all your subjects.

52 Frames, Week 5: Depth Of Field -3

Today we went out and took a quick walk at the mall as I needed some Yupo paper and we stopped to have a some milkshake at Kittys and I thought this might be a opportunity for a Depth Of Field shot – a super important concept in photography that often separates those photos that look “amateur” from those that look “professional” or as I like to call it, “profesh”.

Retro décor and pastel colors, this might work. Four slightly different versions.

Milk shake

Sweets for my honey

Oh, the utter lack of willpower to resist the temptation. I felt like a kid in a candy store.

Overload of garlic

In my FB photography group the topic was garlic, but I added some onions as well. Boy, did I take too many shots of garlic, then I played with them in Lightroom. So, sorry I am going to overload you with photos of garlic.

I took them, might as well share them. Enjoy them, or not. Totally your choice, but if you have a favorite let me know. I will number them 🙂 I might take this as a learning opportunity as well 🙂

Number 1

“You can never have enough garlic. With enough garlic, you can eat The New York Times.” ~ Morley Safer

“Garlic is divine. Few food items can taste so many distinct ways, handled correctly. Misuse of garlic is a crime…Please, treat your garlic with respect…Avoid at all costs that vile spew you see rotting in oil in screwtop jars. Too lazy to peel fresh? You don’t deserve to eat garlic.” ~ Anthony Bourdain

Number 12

Did you make it this far, just curious 😀 ?
