I have been thinking

that is such a original title, it sure gives you a reason to read this post.

I have been doing a little bit of thinking lately, about my photography, and my feeling about social media. As I’ve been having issues with my compter and back-ups and all problems, delays that has followed from them, I am so behind with my posts. Or am I?

Green leaves and droplets

I have been sucked in to this notion, that if you don’t share your photos straight away they are not relevant anymore. Everyone posts their photos direckly from their mobile, even from the location or at least the same day. I do that occasionally too, of coarse I do, but I take most of my photos with the old fashioned way, with a camera. I take time to look through them, edit them and then post them. Due to that, I am always posting at least a day or two later than the day I shot them. Are they still relevant question them comes to mind.

Droplets and reflections

Stupid as it is, it feels like that, and it shouldn’t. This summer it has been a real problem (or not) as my problems have caused me to wait weeks to download them and to do what I do with my photos. Sharing photos on Facebook or Instagram weeks after feels like I am totally late. Should I post at all ?

This has caused me lack of inspiration to post anything, like who cares, really. It is all in my mind, and I know it is totally stupidity on my part. Who cares and knows where I am and when…

Having said all this I’ve decided to start posting photos I took this summer. I did not take as many photographs this summer as I usually do, one of the reasons been the the issues I have been writing about and the other is I feel that I have taken so many photos of the same places and things that I ended up not carrying my camera around with me.

Wow, haven’t written this much in a long time, if you read this far, thanks! Tell me what you think about this topic, if anything 🙂

I need to add a couple photos to this post, well that is what i usually do, post photos. As this is such grumpy, self-defense, teary post. Droplets will be the theme.

New Blog and Monthly Theme

Hi all,

it is nearly new year and I decided to make a bold move. I changed my theme here on WP – what do you think? My aim was to lessen the clutter and give the spotlight on my photos.

As you know I am not a writer, I don’t have that much to say at least I do not think that too many would be interested in my rambling style of writing. My writing reflects the clutter in my mind, hopping and popping from one thought to an other. So to get a something other than a mind flow kind of text from me here is a challenge. I reserve that to my work.  This is for my photos, the way I see the world through my lens.

As a hint of the coming month – I am once again picking a theme. I will be visiting friends in Florida in January, so my photos will be filled with sunshine and sights. I am posting some photos from my previous trip to begin with and when I get there, my uploads will all from my mobile as I an not going to carry my laptop with me – you know I will be on holiday.

MY office – my workspace

I thought that I show my workspace, share what I love about it ….with you and WeWork, a co-working company.

MY office-2

As you can see from the photos, it is comfy, with something new and something old in it. My husband has renovated the old cupboard and round table to suit the style of the office. Old wool rug to give warmth and softness to it. Lundia shelving – not my fav anymore, but it certainly holds the books, old vinyl records , photo albums in perfectly. I have gifts from my sisters handmade patchwork quilt, a crocheted tablecloth, Both skills I admire and cannot do. I have my sons old teddy bears… memories.  I have my editing tools here, my paintings and sculptures liven up the walls and counters, everything I need. I am happy with it.

The view from with changing seasons is an inspiration, to grab may camera and find beauty in the nature.

Good News from Thu, 14 August, 2014:

Finns are like squirrels

As an Australian who moved to Helsinki three years ago, a lot of things are still new to me here: summer cottages, berry picking, snow, the four seasons… and squirrels. In fact, I recently stumbled on the observation that Finns are rather like squirrels.

To begin with, they both change their behaviour and appearance according to the season. In the autumn months the fur of squirrels starts to turn grey. At the same time, Finns begin to shed their colourful summer clothing in favour of more dull and darker colours. Like their clever four-legged compatriots who madly scatter through the forests collecting nuts to store away for the impending winter, many Finns scurry about their gardens collecting bucket-loads of ripe berries, apples and other fruit to store in cellars in preparation for juice-making and pie-cooking during the winter.

Then, after all that energy-sapping autumn activity, Finns (squirrels and humans) hibernate through the winter. When they do venture outside to look for (or work for) food, they leave much of their friendliness at home (after all, it’s far too cold and dark to stop and chat in the snow). And the fashion changes. Finnish squirrels pull on dull grey fur coats while Finnish humans do the same in an attempt to blend into the bleak landscape hoping no-one notices them.

As the climate turns warmer and sunnier in the spring, squirrels wear bolder reddish-brown tones. Their human counterparts are more adventurous, wearing their brightest reds, blues and yellows in an attempt to compensate for their boring, cold behaviour during autumn and winter.

Summer, of course, is when all Finns, both two-legged and four-legged, are happiest and boldest, venturing further from home (some just to the next forest, others as far away as Thailand). Like squirrels, many Finnish humans swap one nest for another during the summer, escaping to the peace and solitude of their lakeside cottage (kesämökki in Finnish) where they hibernate once again.
