People in hurry, but still have time for a quick stop – at fast-food restaurant. The contrast is the setting in this old building and the Burger King that is there. What caught my attention was how the light showcased the beauty of the wall details and the light streaming from the chairs.
Two takes color and black and white, which one works best? I myself prefer the color one this time.

People in hurry, no time to stop. The contrast of the man in a hurry and the man by the wall with his dog create a contrast in this shot. And the tourist walking … is dropped into their world.

How hard is it to find purple in your photos that are not flowers, in my case hard. Had to dig deep into memories and archive. I remembered this church concert in Mikael Agricola Church with purple lightning.

In Helsinki library-the softness of the window gives the people on the move great contrast the silhouettes look crisp. The back-lit light made this shot for me.

In Helsinki library- I saw this man waiting – alone for company and I liked how he had placed his hand on his chest. The back-lit light made this shot for me.

Today is 10 October, birthday of the writer Aleksis Kivi; the occasion is also celebrated as the Day of Finnish Literature
Aleksis Kivi, born as Alexis Stenvall, is considered to be the national author of Finland. He was a Finnish writer, playwright, and poet who lived from 1834 to 1872. Kivi’s most famous work is his novel called “Seven Brothers” (Seitsemän veljestä), which is widely regarded as the first significant novel written in the Finnish language. Kivi’s writing often depicted rural life in Finland, showcasing the struggles and joys of everyday people. His contributions to Finnish literature have had a lasting impact, and he is still celebrated as a pioneer of Finnish national literature.

Flying the flag is a great and dignified way to express joy and emphasise a day of celebration. Flying the flag is also a great way of showing respect or expressing sorrow. Finland has a rather tolerant flag flying culture, although a certain degree of sombreness is connected to flying the flag. I

In Finland we do not have our flag in the poles all the time, we have special day when we have it and even then it is up only on official flag days and national flag days designated in the calendar. The flag may be flown on other days as well. The Finnish flag should be flown between prescribed times. The decree stipulates that it should be hoisted at eight in the morning and lowered at sunset. However, in summer the flag can be kept flying until 21.00.

it is the time that time of year again when the magical color show begins, it’s not at it’s best glory as yet. But You can smell , sense the coming autumn.

Autumn: a tapestry of vibrant hues and gentle transitions, where nature bids summer adieu and welcomes the season of reflection and harvest.

This summer/ autumn the mushrooms have been really popping up, I don’t remember when we have had this much of them pop up in our yard. I Don’t recognize them from each other, so I don’t pick them up. I take photos instead and buy the ones I eat, better safe than sorry .

The white fly mushroom (Amanita virosa) is deadly poisonous. Dangerous cell toxins damage internal organs: kidneys, liver, heart muscle, brain and blood vessels.
The white fly mushroom is completely white, and the color does not change from contact or other handling. The cap is egg-shaped when young, then bell-shaped and almost flat when old. It is sticky when wet and silky shiny when dry, and slightly yellowed in the middle when older. The gills are permanently white.
The leg is also completely white. Its upper part has the characteristic sign of a fly agaric: a ragged and hanging ring. A good sign is also the thick, lumpy basal part of the foot surrounded by a sheath.

fly agaric have been popping up some of them are rather big

I did some search about these mushrooms, and was surprised that they are editable. The cap of the honeydew(Armillaria borealis) mushroom has clear scales, the ring is strong and effervescent. The scales of the tadpole mushroom, on the other hand, are insignificant, its leg is club-like and often dirty yellow. The ring of the species is thin and pendulous and often disappears completely.
The way the species grow is also different: the mushroom grows in dense clumps on the stump.
Water, the essence of life, flows endlessly through the rocky crevices and gentle streams. It is a symbol of resilience, adaptability, and transformation. Just like water, we too must learn to flow through life’s challenges, gracefully navigating the twists and turns that come our way.

Imagine a babbling brook, its gentle melody soothing your soul. The water, sparkling in the sunlight, dances over pebbles, creating a symphony of nature’s music. It reminds us to embrace the beauty and serenity of the present moment.

As water cascades down a waterfall, it reminds us of the power and strength within us. With every drop that falls, it signifies the potential for change and growth. Just as the water carves its path through solid rock, we too can carve our own destiny, shaping our lives through determination and perseverance.

So let the flowing water be a constant source of inspiration. May it remind you to adapt, to embrace change, to find strength in the face of adversity, and to let your spirit flow freely. Like a river, may you navigate through life with grace and purpose, leaving your mark on the world.

The river makes the water flow. That’s how I live. I just let everything flow. Flow with the river.
Vitor Belfort

Everything flows and nothing abides, everything gives way and nothing stays fixed.

Donna has chosen Time as her theme.
Time can indeed be looked upon in many ways, here are some thoughts on time from greater minds than mine, to me time is so abstract and also so tangible.
So here are some thoughts on time and a photo to go along with it.
“Time and tide wait for no man.” – Geoffrey Chaucer

“Lost time is never found again.” – Benjamin Franklin

“Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind.” – Nathaniel Hawthorne

“Time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time,’ is like saying, ‘I don’t want to.’” – Lao Tzu

“Time is the wisest counselor of all.” – Pericles

“Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.” – William Penn

“The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is.” – C.S. Lewis

“Time is a great healer, but a poor beautician.” – Lucille S. Harper
The outside beauty can fade and wrinkle but the inner beauty remains.

“Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend.” – Theophrastus

“Time is what keeps everything from happening at once.” – Ray Cummings
From beginning to the end

I’ve been into black and white photography for the longest time, so Anne Sandler’s challenge this week is really appreciated. Thanks, Anne!
Is monochrome black and white? Is black and white monochrome? You may be surprised at the answer. I was after I did some research. Here’s what I found.
Black and white is the result of only using black or white and shades of. The shades of meaning grayscale. Here are some black and white photographs.
I have always carried a torch for black and white photography 😂 I thought it went well with the header image .

Still life

Cities…

Then, well portraits in black and white are my all time favorite thing to do

Monochrome photos contain variations of only one color and nothing else. Meaning, different shades of one color like blue, red, green, etc. Here are some of my examples.
colored monochrome

I’m certainly drawn to color, all colors. So, it delights me that Sofia picked primary colors as her challenge this week.
Flowers in Primary colors, trying to find a blue flower that was not more in the violet, purple shade is was hard. Did not totally nail it here either.

Here are some colorful birds, blue, yellow and red.

Fruits and berries

Well then there is odds and ends of color pops

I needed to add something in monochrome – of course

I have been uninspired and slightly depressed ( I just had a birthday) about growing old, a small age crisis 🙂 plus for some reason I actually ache real physically. So much joy in getting old. So I have been absent from the blog world mostly. I will weather this, I am totally working on it. As a positive person I do not dwell on these for long.
I took these some days back when we had some rainy days. They someway reflect my mood…. I see a small light ahead, and it is getting brighter. A minimalistic take on the weather

This week, Amy’s challenge of framing has me looking at my old and new photos.
Frames, so many of them including window’s, doorways and alleys the most obvious ones. Sorry for the overload of photos.. I am still keeping my style, more photo’s less words.

Windows the obvious frame

August, the Time you see apples 🍎 in the trees and obviously take some photos. Try something new, Like baking a apple pie with a new recipe?

There is a recipe for a Finnish version of an apple pie

Dough:
125 g butter
½ cup (120 ml) sugar
1 egg
1 ½ cups (350 ml) wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp vanilla sugar
4-5 green granny smith apples (depending on the size of the apples)
3 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
3 tbsp butter
Mix the butter and sugar in a bowl by hand. Add the egg and whisk. In a separate bowl, mix the flours, baking powder and vanilla sugar together. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture about ½ cup at a time. Work it together until you have a ball of pastry dough.
Preheat oven to 200°C. Wash the apples and slice them very thinly.
Use one tablespoon of butter to butter your pie dish. Take the dough out of the bowl. Spread the dough (about 5 mm thick layer) to the bottom and sides of the pie dish. Set the apple slices tightly starting from the edges. Sprinkle the sugar and ground cinnamon on top. Spread little pieces of butter (2 tbsp together) on the top of the pie.
Bake in the oven for 25-35 minutes. Remember to check it every 10 minutes to avoid burning the edges.
Enjoy with vanilla sauce or ice cream!
