16th floor view of Helsinki

Unfortunately the photos have the window reflections on the, but Helsinki is rather beautiful city, mixture of old and new. I took these from the 16th floor at Clarion Hotel in Helsinki-

Helsinki by day-01848

Walking in Helsinki in Jätkäsaari, around the new Clarion Hotel, you can see beautiful reflections and from the glass structures.   The ship yards on one side, cruise ships being built and on the other side you can see ships that take you to Tallinn.Helsinki by day-01849

MONOCHROME 4 – 4 – Cafe

Helsinki by day-01888-2

This week I have picked a street photograph, a coffee moment outside.  A man, obviously enjoying a cup of coffee and reading the morning paper. This  is my pick for Monochrome Madness this week.  The original is included for comparison.Helsinki by day-01888

Street photography in Helsinki

Helsinki by day-01886-2

Street photography at Kapteeninkatu in Helsinki. The Finnish flag was Half-mast for our former President Mauno Koivisto who had passed away the day before.  I have photos in color and Monochrome, for some reason they appeal to me in street photography. What your opinion about it?

MM 4-1 Alone

Alone - Ritva Sillanmäki (2 of 2)

Here is my post for MM-4-1 – for some reason the original post had disappeared, so here it is again.

Afternoon at Liuskasaari

We stopped to have coffee at Pop up Kahvila Liuskasaari. If you visit the island be sure to pop there. Nice and friendly service and the pancakes and coffee were delicious.

IMG_4096-2

This weeks entry to    Monochrome Madness 3-51 challenge is a view to Helsinki City Hall , it is a central administrative building of Helsinki.   The city hall is located  next to Market Square at the moment rather quiet, but as summer comes it will be fill of orange tents.

Helsinki

Helsinki our capital is such a beautiful city, that is my opinion 🙂 I took these pictures when walking to the train after a meeting…mobile phones do have good cameras now days

Snowing

I edited the originals a bit and also used cream tones in the other set, for some reason those appeal to me more. We’ve had some snowfall today, winter is back. Unfortunately so are the low temperatures too.

Seurasaari Island

These photo’s are from the open-air museum of Seurasaari, it is located on a beautiful green island just a few kilometres from the heart of Helsinki. The island is a tranquil oasis in the midst of the city and at the museum the traditional Finnish way of life is displayed in the cottages, farmsteads and manors of the past four centuries that have been relocated from all around Finland.

Afternoon in Hernesaari

I spent a beautiful afternoon in Hernesaari, Helsinki as sailboat sailed in to the fog. The fog came and went so quickly. It was so lovely to watch as the shades of blue changed and softened and sharpened again.
