Finland is Europe’s most heavily-forested country. Forests take over 74.2% of the land area.
There are about twenty indigenous tree species growing in Finland, the most common ones being pine, spruce and birch ). Usually two or three tree species dominate a forest.
Naturally pure pine stands are found in rocky terrain, on top of arid eskers and on pine swamps. Natural spruce stands are found on richer soil. Birch is commonly found as an admixture, but it can occasionally form pure birch stands.
About half of the forest land area consists of mixed stands. Rarer species are found mostly as solitary trees. The south-western corner and the south coast of Finland are touched by a narrow zone growing oak, maple, ash and elm.

Flowers whisper “Beauty!” to the world, even as they fade, wilt, fall. ~Dr. SunWolf,
I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.

I took a simple approach to this…all kids love to play in the nature, well at least mine did.
We spent hours daily playing in woods, ditches and by the sea. I wish all kids had that opportunity. These did – all in different countries.

I took these few days previous the challenge- but this week has been so dark and wet that no photos worth showing have come my way. Hope I’m in the challenge even if I took them
few day prior the challenge 🙂

This is not something I would do but Ice swimming is supposedly good for your health.
I took some pictures of the flowing water that keeps the ice hole open and the edges of the hole look lovely – artistic.

We had a lovely cold and sunny day and lots of us used the opportunity to spend it doing some outdoor activities, skiing and walking on the ice, kids sledding down a slopes.People ice fishing and their pets having a great time enjoying the freedom of open space.
Light, sun has that effect 🙂

These images were taken this morning and one in the evening in Helsinki…no light in the morning ( 8:00) when going to work, and no light when coming home(17:00).
Live birds are purchased in the market and to be are released for cosmic merit. Thai people believe that emissions are released in live birds and fish. Releasing them you are considered for forgiveness. Or so we were told by the locals.
While visiting a small island in Koh Yao Noi we saw these men in the market buying “forgiveness” a new beginning…
Today – once again was snowing most of the day…nature looks lovely.
Here are few shots taken from taken this afternoon…
This was one smelly exploration to a fish market in Negombo, Sri Lanka.
The Fish market was so far from the sterile shops we have here in Finland. This place had life, smells and tons of fresh fish.
It was an experience I won’t forget

Here in Finland at this time of the year you do not see many exotic birds, so these are what I am able to spot in our winter skies…flying

This week’s Challenge is: Flying!
In this week’s Wild Weekly Photo Challenge, we’re challenging bloggers to get outside & photograph things in nature which make them feel peaceful!
I do not like winter, but it is beautiful now that the snow has arrived to brighten the few hours of light we have here in the north, this scenery is peaceful in spite the fact that it’s freezing.
